HWR 2010 was a tremendous success, and we are looking forward to another great event! Many thanks to our runners, walkers, volunteers, supporters and sponsors who helped us break all prior records. With your help we raised over $500,000 for hunger relief in metro Atlanta and north Georgia.

Adult Volunteer Opportunities

Set Up Crew (ADULTS ONLY: groups or individuals) *** Volunteer Opportunity Full***
Time:          8:00am - 11:30am (3.5 hours)
Duties:       40 volunteers will transform Turner Field Green Lot into Race Day! Arrange signs, set-up tables, load walk supplies and assist with overall preparations. Lifting required. Individuals will also work in pairs to ensure that route drummers, singers and dancers receive their equipment and have their supplies necessary to entertain walkers and runners along the route.  

Walk Registration (ADULTS ONLY: groups or individuals) *** Volunteer Opportunity Full***
Time:          11:30 am - 3:30pm (4 hours)
Duties:       40 volunteers will help walkers navigate the registration process, ensure their registration form is filled out properly and direct them to activities.  On-site training provided.

Run Registration (ADULTS ONLY: groups or individuals) *** Volunteer Opportunity Full***
Time :          11:00am - 3:00pm (4 hours)
Duties:       25 volunteers register runners for the 5K Fun Run and distribute numbers and
                  t-shirts.

Prize Distribution Volunteers (ADULTS ONLY: groups or individuals) *** Volunteer Opportunity Full***
Time:          11:30am – 4:00 pm (4.5 hours)
Duties:       40 volunteers will distribute incentive prizes (pins or t-shirts) to the walkers based on their donations.

Information Guides (ADULTS ONLY: groups or individuals) *** Volunteer Opportunity Full***
Time:          11:30am – 4:00pm (4.5 hours)
Duties:       20 volunteers will greet walkers, runners and guests, direct them to various areas and assist with general questions.  (Don’t worry, you’ll get a great cheat sheet and have staff nearby.)

Entertainment Activities (ADULTS & 16+: groups or individuals) *** Volunteer Opportunity Full***
Time:         11:30am - 4:00pm (4.5 hours)
Duties:       30 volunteers will help run carnival games, space walks, face painting at the Family Fun area at the park!

Family and Youth Friendly Opportunities

Walk Marshals (ALL AGES: groups or individuals) *** Volunteer Opportunity Full***
Time:         12:30 am - 4:00pm (3.5 hours)
Duties:       75 volunteers direct and cheer walkers along the route.  Some marshals hold signs and encourage walkers to stay on the correct side of the street.  Help keep the environment clean and pick up discarded water bottles from participants. 

Refreshments (ALL AGES: groups or individuals) *** Volunteer Opportunity Full***
Time:         12:00pm – 4:00pm (4 hours)
Duties:       10 volunteers will provide runners and walkers with water and fruit as they complete the run and/or walk.

Water Stops (ALL AGES: groups or individuals)    ***Volunteer Opportunity Full***
Time:           1:00pm - 4:00pm (3 hours)
Duties:       80 volunteers in groups of 10 will work as a team to provide walkers with refreshments along the route and keep the route clean from discarded bottles.

Recycling (ALL AGES: groups or individuals) *** Volunteer Opportunity Full***
Time:         11:30am - 4:00pm (4.5 hours)
Duties:       20 volunteers will work as a team to gather all plastic bottles, aluminum cans, etc. from the day to get recycled. 

Route Recycling (ALL AGES: groups or individuals) *** Volunteer Opportunity Full***
Time:         1:30pm – 5:00pm (3.5 hours)
Duties:       15 volunteers will work as a team and follow the walkers on the route to gather all plastic bottles, aluminum cans, etc. from the day to see that the are recycled. 

Post Walk Break Down (all groups, families & individuals encouraged) *** Volunteer Opportunity Full***
Time:          3:30pm - 6:00pm (2.5 hours)
Duties:       A final crew of 35 will take down banners and other Hunger Walk supplies at Turner Field.  Volunteers help clean the park to ensure it is in good condition and assist with recycling. Additionally, a group of 5-10 people is needed to do heavy lifting taking down the stage.

PLEASE NOTE: 
Youth under 18 years old who wish to volunteer must be accompanied by an adult chaperone (1 adult for every 1 to 2 children).  For youth organizations who wish to volunteer during Hunger Walk, 1 chaperone must be present for every 5 youth.

We sincerely appreciate the help of our volunteers and always aim to be as accommodating as circumstances permit.  We do ask that volunteers be flexible to help us meet the needs of this fantastic event.  Volunteer assignments may be switched to similar volunteer jobs on the day of the event if necessary.
